People are going back to the office and honestly, I’ve been loving seeing all the different styles as people return. While I don’t necessarily miss going into an office, I know that some people love it. And I celebrate this for them! To celebrate even more, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite plus-size indie sewing patterns that are perfect to head into the office with.
How I Chose The Plus-Size Indie Sewing Patterns to Include
One of the things that I’ve learned in this journey of being plus-size is that people have different definitions of what plus-size is and includes. Like I’ve seen patterns claim to be plus-size and they go up to a hip of like 45’. Listen: yes, this is still plus-size but this is like BAAAAARELY plus-sized!!! So it was important to me that these patterns go up to a minimum of a 58’ bust and hip. Many go past that.
These are also patterns that I’ve either sewn before and loved OR love so much that I either plan on making them or want to make them in the future. I know that while my aesthetic isn’t for everyone, a lot of you do love it. I did keep it a little conservative because last I worked in corporate America, people weren’t showing T&A there so I did keep that in mind as well.
Indie Sewing Patterns To Wear to Work
Pants Patterns
Or should I say slacks? That’s like the better way to refer to them to make them more appropriate for work.
- Protea Pants by Paradise Patterns

- Closet Core Pietra Pants
- M4M Winnie Pants

This collection of trousers includes both knit and woven patterns—predominantly woven though. It also has different leg widths from wide to taper giving great options to make. It’s pretty well known that I have a love affair with the Closet Core Pietra Pants. I made the Protea Pants during testing and keep wanting to make more but time. The BF Pattern Taylor Trousers are on my cutting table and I’m geeked to make them!

One of my favorite styles of dresses is a wrap dress. I love the way it shows off my curves. They can be revealing or not and offer a lot of versatility. These dresses can be worn along or paired with a blazer to make the look a little more dressed up.

Most of these patterns can be made into dresses as well, which I love. There’s nothing like a double-duty pattern. There was an influx of button-down patterns that dropped last year and many of these made this list because I’m in my button-down era and I want everyone to join me!!!
Blazer Patterns
- Friday Patterns Heather Blazer
- PSCO Kirby Blazer

I love a good blazer. I think that everyone needs both oversized and tailored blazers because they give such different looks. I love the way blazers add a touch of class to whatever you wear them with—from a sweatsuit to slacks and tops.
All of these patterns can be mixed and matched to give a put-together look that can transition from working in the office to working at home and being prepared for Zoom meetings with ease and comfort. I’ve made many of these and have the rest on my to-be-made list!
