Sew What Do I Wear: Plus-Size Maternity Vacation Ed.

This week begins my week long vacation. Ok, it’s really a staycation but I’m gladly taking a break from all things motherhood, chasing children, and chauffeur related. There will be trips to the nail salon, meeting my sexy husband for impromptu lunch dates and naps. Lots of naps. But one of the things that I struggle with in being in a homeschooling, WAH, very pregnant mom is finding things to wear. Yes, yes, I know, I sew but I hate making things that are maternity because I’m not going to be pregnant for forever and I’ll still want to wear the things I make! But for this week, I took time out to make a plus-size maternity capsule that I can wear and feel beautiful.

A Plus-Size Maternity Wardrobe Capsule

I’ve got to be honest–I’m terrible at creating wardrobe capsules but when my girls from Made for Mermaids and Patterns for Pirates put this together, I jumped at the challenge. They are my favorite pattern designers because they make things for the plus-size ladies AND have things that are maternity friendly. In fact, for all these pieces I made no modifications which means post-baby they are still totally wearable.

Favorite T-Shirt

I rarely sew in solid colors. Don’t ask me why but this is about to change after making this dress. I got this delicious black fabric from a local fabric supplier and I never want to take it off. The Favorite T-Shirtis by Patterns for Pirates (P4P) and is a super quick sew. As in like maaaaaaaybe 30 minutes. Here’s what I love most about it: it can be worn alone, as a t-shirt, or as a tied up crop top giving so much versatility here.

Essential Tank Maxi Dress

I started to make one of these last year and stopped but I have no idea why. This is another quick sew taking about 45 minutes because of the length but super easy. The Essential Tank Dress is another P4P pattern that is a staple for any pattern collection. I styled it with the Favorite T-Shirt tied in a knot as one option and then with a sleeveless Carefree Cardi as another option. My friend Mimi from Unlikely Marthacame over and was wearing a similar outfit as the sleeveless Carefree Cardi and tank dress and I knew I had to recreate it!

Carefree Cardi Vest

I know I should be embracing my very curvaceous pregnancy body but I still have a lot of insecurities. The fat on my hips is something that I’m SUPER insecure about and will work on diligently post baby but until then, I will be rocking this super cute black lace Carefree Cardi that I made into a sleeveless/vest style. It pairs perfectly with pretty much everything.

Pencil Skirt

Who doesn’t love a pencil skirt? As my stomach started expanding, I noticed that my cheetah print pencil skirt made in liverpool just grew right along with it. I got this fabric from Pretty Posh Prints and LOVE it. It’s a lighter liverpool and accommodates BC’s ever growing little body graciously. Again, no modifications were made here to accommodate this plus-size maternity belly! I’ve paired it with the Favorite T-shirt dress knotted BUT I think this would also look super cute with it tucked in too!

I wouldn’t label myself as a fashionista but I do love having nice style. Growing a person can either cramp your style or continue it and I’m choosing the latter. I love that I can create my plus-size maternity wardrobe with ease and not sacrifice style.

What’s your favorite plus-size maternity look?
